GAZA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Representatives of Palestinian factions will head
for Cairo next week to hold bilateral meetings with Egyptian officials over
resuming the inter-Palestinian dialogue, Palestinian and Egyptian sources said
on Tuesday.
Every faction will hold separate talks with the Egyptian officials "to
crystallize a view for ending the internal Palestinian crack and making a
national reconciliation," the Palestinian sources said.
After the two-way meetings end, Egypt will invite the factions to a
national dialogue to end the feud between Islamic Hamas movement and president
Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement.
The national dialogue halted last year when Hamas fought pro-Abbas forces
and took over control of Gaza Strip. Hamas says the fighting was against those
who tried to block its rule that it obtained after winning 2006 parliamentary
elections.
Hamas tightened its grip on Gaza while Abbas consolidated his power in West
Bank. The two sides cracked down against their dissidents -- Fatah people in
Gaza and Hamas supporters in West Bank.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian sources said that several prominent Palestinian
leaders suggested that the national dialogue be held in Gaza.
The suggestion was made to Abbas, the sources said, adding that the idea
was "to stay away from the regional and international effects."
But the suggestion did not bypass Egypt, saying that Egypt and the Arab
League should sponsor the talks by sending their representatives to Gaza.
