Australia surprise Lithuania, still finish fourth

    BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Australia surprised Monday the group leaders Lithuania 106-75 but still finished fouth in Group A of the men's basketball competitions at the Beijing Olympic Games.

    Australia, which lost 97-82 to the third-placed Croatia, have the same record of three wins and two losses as Croatia.

    They will face the United States, which finished atop in Group B, in the quarterfinals, while Croatia is to meet Spain on Wednesday.

    Andrew Bogut led six Australians score double digital numbers with 23 points while Brad Newley adding 16.

    Australia opened the game by 24-8 and extended it to 55-29 in the first half to set the tone of the match.

    Lithuania, which sealed the No.1 finishing of the group before the loss, were led by Ksistof Lavrinovic, who had 14 points and eight rebounds.
