China meets Russia in women's volleyball quarterfinals

    BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Reigning Olympic champion China will play Russia in the quarter-finals of the Beijing Olympics women's volleyball tournament.

    The Chinese women, who beat Russia in a five-set thriller in the final to win the gold medal at the Athens Games, will meet Russia while world No. 1 Brazil takes on Japan, according to the result of drawing of lots Sunday evening.

    In the other quarter-finals scheduled for Tuesday, Cuba will compete against Serbia and the United States is to play Italy.
