Women's defending champions advance to beach volleyball semifinal comfortably

    BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh won easily in a women's quarter final in the beach volleyball tournament on Sunday to advance.

    The American defending champions edged out Ana Paula Connelly and Larissa Franca of Brazil in straight sets 21-18, 21-15.

    The defending champions remained unbeaten at the Beijing Olympics.They have been continuing their winning streak in world-class tournaments in the past years.

    The Brazilian team was newly-formed. Ana, 36, replaced Juliana Felisberta for the Beijing Games as Juliana is suffering from sharp pains on her right knee and decided days before the Olympics opened not to play.
