BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Simon Aspelin and Thomas Johansson from Sweden made history on Friday night in their epic 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 19-17 defeat of Frenchmen Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra, to book their place in the men's doubles final at the Olympic tennis tournament.

    The final set was the longest set ever played in either men's singles or doubles at any Olympic Games and set a new record for the highest number of games (59) played in a men's Olympic tennis (best-of-three sets) match.

    Lleyton Hewitt/Chris Guccione of Australia and Agustin Calleri/Juan Monaco of Argentina had set a new record of 57 games in their first round match on Monday.

    This is only the Swedes' third tournament playing doubles together. They reached the semifinals in Doha and Bastad earlier this year.

    They will face Roger Federer/Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in the final on Saturday.
