BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Canadian's deciseve solo homer pounded the Chinese softballers 1-0 at the Beijing Olympic Games here on Friday.

    Jennifer Yee hit a sudden home run in the six inning to gift Canada the third consecutive victory and dampen the host's dream to seek a podium finish at softball's last Olympic arena.

    "There were lucky to deliver a homer in the later games and the situation following is very difficlut for us," said Chinese head coach Wang Lihong.

    With both sides' steady pitch in the circle, few hits were easily made in the first five innings.

    The Canadian starter Lauren Bay tossed seven impressive innings, striking out six and allowing two hits.

    Lauren's Chinese counterpart Lu Wei also worked seven complete innings and retired seven batters, yet giving up three hits and one run.

    Jennifer Yee brought life to the Canadian offence in the top six inning, gifting the visitor with a solo homer which blast across the right outfield and stunned Chinese girls's confidence.

    The host side had to made a desperate fight in the closing inning but the "golden" outscoring oppotunity was wasted.

    Li Chunxia, Zhang Ai and Guo Jia loaded the bases successively, only seeing three batters fail to hit a scoring chance in front of a fanatic 5000 home crowds.

    "The home run is the turning point. My young players are becoming more and nervous then and cannot settle down to hit ball despite faced with the golden chance," commented Wang.

    With a won-lost record of 2-2, China will face world number two Japan on Saturday and need at least two wins in the following three games to set a berth for the finals.

    The eight teams will play in a round-robin fomat at the preliminaries and the top four winners will contest for medals in the page system.
