STOCKHOLM, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden will go to Beijing this weekend for the Olympic Games, a local newspaper reported Thursday.

The royal couple will arrive in Beijing on Friday afternoon and stay there until Aug. 24, the Swedish newspaper Dangens Nyheter said, quoting the Royal Court.

During their stay in Beijing, the king and queen will watch Swedish athletes competing in various sports and will cheer them on, said Nina Eldh, press officer of the Royal Court.

But they had not decided which events they were going to watch, as the competition program was not available yet, Eldh added.

Carl XVI Gustaf met Silvia at the Munich Olympics 36 years ago and they fell in love. They have attended every Olympics since then.
