    ISLAMABAD, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf called for avoiding confrontation and adopting a conciliatory approach to overcome economic crisis and defeat terrorism, local newspaper DAWN reported Thursday.

    Speaking at the Salam Pakistan cultural show organized by the state-run PTV at the President House in connection with Independence Day, Musharraf stressed the need for political stability in the country to overcome the crisis.

    He said the reconciliation approach was imperative to bring political stability in the country.

    Musharraf said it was his request to all to adopt reconciliation approach instead of confrontation. Differences should be buried to take the country forward, he said, adding that the was confident that the nation would come out of the present crisis.

    The Pakistan People's Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari announced on Aug. 7 that the ruling coalition would initiate the proceedings to impeach Musharraf.

    Three provincial assemblies including Punjab, North West Frontier Province, and Sindh have passed resolutions asking Musharraf to take a confidence vote or resign.

    Presidential spokesman Rashid Qureshi said Musharraf would not resign but face the impeachment.

Pakistan's Sindh provincial assembly passes resolution against Musharraf

    ISLAMABAD, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Sindh provincial assembly Wednesday passed a resolution against President Pervez Musharraf, local TV channel DAWN NEWS reported.

Pakistan's provincial assembly passes resolution, asks Musharraf to take confidence vote 

    ISLAMABAD, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The provincial assembly in eastern Pakistan's Punjab province on Monday passed a resolution to ask President Pervez Musharraf to take a vote of confidence.

    The provincial assembly voted 321 in favor and 25 against on a resolution demanding Musharraf seek confidence vote, a move ahead of formal impeachment, private Geo TV channel reported. Full story

Musharraf says to face impeachment

    ISLAMABAD, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said Saturday he would face impeachment with a democratic spirit.

    During a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain here, Musharraf said he would face the impeachment to be leveled by the ruling coalition and advised the ruling party to adopt a thoughtful way.  Full story

Pakistan's parliament to initiate Musharraf's impeachment

    ISLAMABAD, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The parliament of Pakistan was summoned on Saturday to meet on Aug. 11 to discuss a resolution to seek the impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf.

    The News Network International news agency quoted officials as saying that the National Assembly, Lower House of the Parliament, would meet at 5 p.m.(1100 GMT). Full story

Pakistani politician say impeachment decision hasty

    ISLAMABAD, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians Makhdoom Amin Fahim Thursday said the coalition government had made a sensitive decision to impeach the President in haste like other decisions the coalition made in the past.

    The Dawn News TV channel quoted Amin Fahim as saying that the time was not right for the impeachment of the president as he was afraid that politicians were playing with fire. Full story

Pakistan's coalition to initiate move to impeach Musharraf

    ISLAMABAD, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's coalition will initiate a move to impeach President Pervez Musharraf immediately, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari announced Thursday.

    The judges who were dismissed last year will be restored after the impeachment of Musharraf, Zardari said while addressing a joint news conference with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif here. Full story
