Romania decides to send aid to Georgia

    BUCHAREST, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Romania decided to send humanitarian aid to the people affected by the military conflict in Georgia, announced Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu on Wednesday.

    "Romania, the same as other countries, is to send immediately humanitarian aid to the people affected by the military conflict in Georgia, with such aid to include most probably mainly drugs and medical equipment," Tariceanu said.

    The prime minister also mentioned that sending aid to the Georgian capital Tbilisi was an issues discussed on Wednesday in Brussels, on the occasion of the meeting of the General Affairs and External Relations Council of the European Union, with Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Lazar Comanescu having participated in the meeting too.

    Thus, the Supreme Council for Country Defense, Romania's top-most executive body on security and defense issues, decided during its session on Tuesday to send humanitarian aid to Georgia.
