TOKYO, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Industrial output in Japan went down 2.2 percent in June from May on a seasonally adjusted basis, compared with a preliminary 2.0 percent decline, said the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Tuesday.

The index of production in mines and factories read 106.9, against the 2005 base of 100, said the ministry in a revised report.

It was the first decrease in two months, said the ministry, adding that weaker demand for automobiles, semiconductor-making equipment, food and tobacco were factors behind the downturn.
