MADRID, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The mayor of Madrid Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon began Sunday in Beijing a campaign for his city to host the Olympic Games of 2016.

Madrid "is the best option" from its rivals Chicago (U.S.). Rio de Janerio (Brazil) and Tokyo (Japan), Ruiz said.

According to the news reaching here, Ruiz presented on Sunday the international campaign of Madrid 2016 "Hola Everyone" in the Cervantes Institute of Beijing.

Ruiz arrived at Beijing accompanied by a big municipal delegation to seek the support to host the Olympic in Madrid.

If Madrid hosts the Olympic Games in 2016, it will be the second time Spain hosts these, after Barcelona 1992.

Madrid represents the model of what the city wants to be in the coming years, Ruiz said.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will decide on Oct. 2, 2009, in a meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark which city will host the Olympic Games of 2016.

"Madrid has come to Beijing with two aims: to learn from this city and these games, which is point to start from, and to let the world know our project," Ruiz said.

"Our candidature is not virtual, it is solid and articulates and a true reality. We have reasons and motives to feel us an Olympic city. We have made a model that goes for a new, wide and ambitious Olympic heritage," Ruiz said.

Madrid is seeking again to host the games after the ones of 2012 were given to London, England.

Ruiz said that Madrid "not only does not regret but that it is proud of its experience for the seeking to host in 2012 and over it is build the campaign for 2016."

"It's about a shared dream with King Juan Carlos and the royal family, followed by the institutions, social and economic agents and the Spaniard people," Ruiz said.

According to Ruiz, if Madrid is chosen by the IOC "all the world will discover that Madrid fulfills its compromises, that will never defraud to those who trusted on it."

"It's the moment of Madrid, a cozy, happy city, which opens the hands to the world and open those hands though the Games we want to host in 2016," Ruiz said.
