Beijing Olympics opening most favored by Brazilians

    BRASILIA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- About 40 percent of Brazilians spectators considered the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics "the most splendid one" in history, a survey by Brazilian survey group IPOBE showed on Saturday.

    The opening ceremony of the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games was ranked the second with a 36-percent approval rate. The 2007 Pan-American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, came third with 10 percent, followed by the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games with 6 percent.

    The 2004 Athens Olympics won an approval rate of 5 percent, while the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984 and the Sydney Olympics in 2000 secured 2 percent each.

    The IPOBE is considered Brazil's most important and authoritative survey institution, which consists of 52 companies.
