Chinese vice president: Beijing Olympics would increase China-World understanding

    BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping told a number of world royal family members on Saturday that the on-going Beijing Olympic Games would help China and the world better understand each other.

    He met with members of the royal family from seven countries, namely Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Qatar, Spain, Thailand and Tonga, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

    Xi said hosting the Beijing Olympic Games is a century-old dream for the Chinese people.

    "We hope the Games would serve as a bridge for the world to better understand China, and China to understand the world," he said.

    The royal family members congratulated China for the spectacular opening ceremony Friday night, and said they are committed to improving relationship and cooperation with China.
