BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian Petya Nedelcheva has locked her target at a quarter-final berth after defeating Sara Persson from Sweden in the Olympic badminton tournament on Saturday.

The 16th-ranked Bulgarian, who reached the singles quarters in 2004, seemed satisfied with her debutant performance at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium.

"If I continue to play like today, I think I can easily reach the quarter-final," said the 25-year-old after a straight two-set win.

She said highly of the passionate spectators. "They are just amazing. They are cheering for every player, no matter where they come from," she said.

Nedelcheva expects a close third round game against No. 8 ranked Wong Mew Choofrom from Malaysia, the player she had never played against.

"It will be a tough match," she said.
