Four paddlers become flag bearers in opening ceremony

    BEIJING, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Zeina Shaban has been named by Jordan delegation as the flag bearer at Friday's opening ceremony of the upcoming Olympic Games, coming out the fourth table tennis player to enjoy the glory in Beijing.

    Her coach Anders Johannsson told the sport's world governing body ITTF here Thursday that the well-known athlete in Jordan will be the flag bearer of the west Asian country.

    Shaban, 20, was elected Jordan's Athlete of the Year in 2003 and was awarded the prestigious King Hussein Medal for Achievement by His Majesty King Abdullah II.

    Other flag bearers with table tennis origin at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony will be Li Jia Wei for Singapore, Ai Fukuhara for Japan as well as Priscila Tommy for the South Pacific Republic of Vanuatu.
