BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Polish tennis sensation Agnieszka Radwanska said here Tuesday that she will enjoy the Beijing Olympics and is happy with her performance this season.
The 19-year-old teenager, enjoying the best season since turning pro in 2005, has seen her ranking rocket from 26th to the career-high world number nine in just half a year and has become one of the best Polish gold hopefuls in the Beijing Olympics.
"I am very happy that my ranking is rising fast, and I even can make some quarterfinals of the Grand Slam level and I can see a little chance of playing against the masters."
Radwanska has claimed three of all her four titles in 2008, including the biggest triumph at the Tier II Eastbourne event, and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the Wimbledon. She became first Polish player in WTA Tour history to surpass 1 million U.S. dollars in career prize money earnings.
The Pole, who won juniors title at Wimbledon in 2005 and at Roland Garros in 2006, said she was very sorry for Maria Sharapova's withdrawal from the Olympics due to injury.
"I am not sure whether she is injured recently or the old time injury is coming back, but it is bad luck for her. It is the Olympics and it comes every four years, but the injury did not come in the right time."
Rather than staying in the luxurious hotels, Radwanska prefers the life in the Athletes' Village, saying that all she could do in the hotels is sleep.
"The village is very good, I am very happy with the life here, because I can meet other people, not only from the tennis world," said the teenage girl, the first Polish player in history to crack top 10.
"It is very comfortable and everybody stays together. It is much better than living in a hotel. Here you will see something different which is good.
"The Olympics are something amazing, a lot of people, quite unbelievable. Everything is big, the courts are wonderful and the Village is huge."
