Special report: 2008 Olympic
Games

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Malaysia Olympic
Delegation held their national flag-raising ceremony in the Olympic Village here
on Monday. Chef de Mission Ho Kok Chye said that Malaysia wanted to win one
medal in the Beijing Games.
"We hope to bring home one medal in the Beijing
Games. And it won't have to be a gold, even a bronze is good enough for us to
cheer," said Ho after the ceremony.
Malaysia's medal hope relies on their badminton star
Lee Chong Wei, world second ranked men's singles player. "Lee is in a very sound
form now. He will arrive in Beijing tomorrow," said Ho.
Since its Olympic debut in 1956, Malaysia has already
participated in twelve Olympic Games. However, the country from southeast Asia
only won one silver and two bronze medals, all from badminton events. After
finishing empty-handed in both Sydney and Athens Games, Malaysia is determined
to end their medal drought in Beijing.
However, the 26-year-old Lee Chong Wei will not have
a plain sailing in Beijing. He will face severe challenge from China's world
No.1 Lin Dan, as well as the other two local players Bao Chunlai and Chen Jin.
The Chinese trio have been highly expected by enthusiastic fans to sweep the
podium on their own soil.
Besides Lee, Malaysia's "diving princess" Leong Mun
Yee is also a medal prospect in Beijing. The 24-year-old snatched two bronzes in
2006 Asian Games and now she has been training with her new Chinese coach for
over a year.
"I have benefited a lot from my Chinese coach. The
Chinese diving team is very good, and I will learn from them in the Games.
Hopefully, I can make it into the semifinal," said a shy Leong.
