Special report: 2008 Olympic
Games
BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- What makes a champion? The Olympic champion
forum will discuss it in a two-day duration in the Peking University with many
sports and culture VIPs having been invited.
The forum was initiated by Professor Allan Snyder from the Center for the
Mind of the University of Sydney before the opening of the 2000 Sydney Olympic
Games, aiming at exploring the keys to success so as to promote the
self-fashioning and growth of the youth.
As one of the most important cultural events before the opening of the 2008
Beijing Olympic Games, the forum, scheduled to be held in the PKU Hall on Monday
and Tuesday, is fully supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and
the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 29th Olympic Games (BOCOG).
The honorable guests having been invited to the Beijing forum include
former IOC president Juan Antonio Samaranch, former Secretary of State of the
United States Henry Kissinger, world famous composer Tan Dun and Weiming Tu,
professor of Harvard University and world famous scholar on Chinese History and
Philosophy and Confucian Studies.
Also there will show up the forum's initiator Snyder, president of the
Peking University Xu Zhihong, and culture and sports celebrities, like Olympic
champions Yang Yang A of speed skating, diver Gao Min and Australian sprinter
Cathy Freeman.
The closing ceremony of the forum, also in the PKU Hall on Tuesday, will
present one of the Meet in Beijing-2008 Culture Eventis, featuring over 20
world-famous Chinese musicians together to interpret Chinese culture with their
own perspectives in the concert.
