Japanese PM reshuffles Cabinet

    TOKYO, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda reshuffled his 17-member Cabinet Friday in a bid to bolster support rate ahead of next House of Representatives election.

    Four Cabinet members, including Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura, Foreign Minister Komura and Health, Labor and Welfare Minister Yoichi Masuzoe retained their posts. Full story

Japanese PM chooses new ruling party leadership

    TOKYO, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister and ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Yasuo Fukuda made adjustment to the leadership of the LDP Friday afternoon prior to the Cabinet reshuffle later in the day.

    Former Foreign Minister Taro Aso was appointed secretary general of the party. Lower House Steering Committee Chief Takashi Sasagawa was appointed General Council chairman. Former Education Minister Kosuke Hori was named chairman of the Policy Research Council. Makoto Koga was retained as chairman of the Election Strategy Council. Full Story
