14 die in Indonesia in suspected alcohol poisoning

    JAKARTA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Fourteen people working for cargo ship, including some Thai citizens, have died after drinking mix-drink suspected to contain alcohol, Indonesian national police spokesman Sulistyo Ishak said here Tuesday.

    The incident happened at a party on Sunday night in Merauke of Papua province in easternmost of Indonesia, the spokesman said.

    "Fourteen people have died in the party in Merauke," the spokesman told Xinhua after receiving report from the Merauke police.

    He said that the workers mixed several types of drinks suspected to contain alcohol before drinking them.

    The Papua police were working on the case to find what caused the deaths, said Ishak.
