Nigeria continues to dominate ITF junior tennis meet

    LAGOS, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's representatives at the International Tennis Federation junior tennis championships in Dakar, Senegal, continued their domination of the event despite losing in the finals of the doubles in the second week, local media reported Tuesday.

    Umoru Balami from the Co-Foundation Academy in Kaduna and Tamina Kienka from the International Tennis Academy were upstaged by the Ghanaian pair of Moses Armah and Gabriel Atteh 6-3, 7-6 but still held the No. 1 position in the event going into the third and final week.

    In a week that saw a heightening of the challenge from the other players from nine other countries, Balami had to battle from a three set match before winning single titles against Armah 6-4, 3-6,6-4.

    The third week matches began on Saturday with Tamina Kienka, the youngest player in the tournament, outplaying Omar Jawara from Gambia 6-3, 7-6.
