KATHMANDU, July 26 (Xinhua) -- South Asian ambassadors representing their respective countries in Nepal said the forthcoming 15th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit would address the current regional challenges like food crisis, energy crisis and fuel price hike, terrorism, trafficking, and climate change.
According to a report of The Rising Nepal Saturday, the SAARC Summit is to be held in Colombo of Sri Lanka on Aug. 2-3 and Nepali caretaker Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala will participate in the conference as an executive head of the state.
Speaking at a SAARC ambassadors' interaction program in Nepali capital Kathmandu on Friday, they also noted that effective coordination between and among the South Asian countries was needed for implementing the agendas.
Foreign Secretary Gyan Chandra Acharya said the Nepali delegates would emphasize on eliminating terrorism from South Asian countries and maintaining regional integrity as well as hold discussions on agendas like poverty alleviation, trade promotion and climate change.
Pakistani Ambassador to Nepal Syed Arbrar Husain said the heads of the states of the South Asian countries could resolve all disputes by discussing in the common platform.
"If there are any doubts about provoking terrorism, we can discuss in various forums. Besides this, we will discuss social, economic and environmental issues, " Hussain said.
He also said the 15th SAARC Summit would conclude with a clear roadmap and commitment for poverty alleviation as well.
Founded in 1985, the SAARC includes Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
