AMMAN, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Thursday reiterated its support for
Sudan's efforts to realize national reconciliation, noting the kingdom's stance
on the International Criminal Court (ICC)-Khartoum dispute is in line with the
Arab League (AL), local daily Jordan Times reported on Friday.
Royal Court chief Bassem Awadallah said Jordan is keen on Sudan's security,
sovereignty and stability, and backs the country's national reconciliation
process.
He stressed that Jordan's stand on the ICC indictment crisis comes in line
with that of AL, which was put forward at a recent AL foreign ministers' meeting
in Cairo.
His remarks came as a response to a letter reaching Jordan's king Abdullah
II from Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, which was delivered by the
president's adviser and special envoy Ghazi Salaheddin, the report said.
In the letter, Bashir outlined the latest developments in Darfur and the
standoff between Khartoum and the ICC, whose prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo
sought an arrest warrant of the president on charges of alleged war crimes and
crimes against humanity in the western Sudanese region of Darfur.
Meanwhile, Jordan's Lower House Speaker Abdul Hadi Majali also expressed
objection against the charges when meeting with visiting Salaheddin, claiming
that the lawmakers are convinced the charges are of a "political nature that
serves the interest of some countries."
