ISLAMABAD, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani made a phone call to his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh on Thursday, congratulating him on winning confidence vote from the parliament, state media reported.
India's United Progressive Alliance government led by Singh won the trust vote by 275 votes to 256 in the parliament on Tuesday.
Gilani in his phone call said Singh's success is the "success of democracy", and such democratic norms must be encouraged in the region, the official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said.
Singh said all outstanding issues including the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan would be resolved amicably, the APP added.
The Pakistani prime minister said that Pakistan attaches immense importance to its relations with India, adding that present unrest in the region demands more cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism as both the countries are victims of this menace.
Gilani and Singh are expected to hold a meeting on the sideline of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit scheduled between July 26 and Aug. 4 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
