Special report: 2008 Olympic Games

BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan Ambassador to China on Thursday said he hoped that his country could win medals at the Beijing Olympics.

Ambassador Mohamed Cherti said taking part was important, but so was winning.

Morocco won two gold medals and one bronze in 2004 in Athens, and he hoped 2008's 51-member team would build on that.

After visiting the Olympic village and other Olympic venues, the ambassador said Beijing's preparations were "amazing" and "incredible".

The Chinese and their government had made tremendous efforts for the Games, and they had been paid back, he said, citing the improved environment, the increased efficiency in running the city and the more appealing cultural and natural attractions in the city.
