Britain to send 313 athletes for Beijing Olympics

    LONDON, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Britain will send a total of 313 athletes for the Beijing Olympics as it first finished the registration process with the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games.

    According to a latest news release, Britain will also dispatch 236 officials for the Games, where its athletes will compete in 20sports.

    The first batch of the British delegation to arrive in Beijing will be the divers who will move into the Olympic Village on July 28.

    "The Olympic Village is looking very impressive and ready to welcome the world's athletes. The state of final preparations and readiness is better than any Olympic Village that I have experienced in the past.

    "There is a real buzz in Beijing - you can feel how excited everyone is about the Olympic Games soon starting," said Simon Clegg, chef de mission of the British Olympic delegation.
