HARARE, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabweans say they are optimistic about the
signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between President Robert Mugabe and
leaders of the two MDC formations as this will map the way forward for the
benefit of the majority of Zimbabweans, ZBC News reported on Wednesday.
A survey by ZBC News in Harare revealed that most Zimbabweans believe the
signing of the MOU on Monday indicates that all political parties involved are
willing to find a home grown solution to the challenges facing the country.
The people said they are happy with the move taken by the three political
parties which have committed to dialogue by signing the MOU which has set an
agenda for full scale talks to resolve the country's political and economic
challenges.
They say all political parties involved have set a good example which they
hope will bring peace and prosperity to the country considering that the MOU
underscores restoration of economic stability and growth, the land issue and
sanctions.
Some said the move is clear testimony that Zimbabwean leaders are not
selfish as this was done for the good of the nation and not of individuals.
Some Christians reiterated the need for unity in the country to enable
economic and social development to take place at a fast pace, adding that a
shared vision will bring prosperity to the nation.
The signing of the MOU under South African President Thabo Mbeki's
mediation has been hailed by people from across the political divide who now say
sincerity is important in the talks so as to find a lasting solution to the
country's political, economic and social problems.
