BANGKOK, July 23 (Xinhua) -- A unit of army soldiers on Wednesday morning
was attacked by a roadside bomb in Thailand's southernmost province of Yala. Two
of them were injured, local media reported.
The unit of five soldiers were patrolling the road on foot. When they
reached an intersection in Muang district, the insurgents detonated the bomb
with a remote control, local news network The Nation said.
The two soldiers were rushed to the provincial hospital.
Just last week, three self-claimed spokesmen of 11 insurgency groups made
an announcement through local television, announcing ceasefire with the
government without any conditions. However, both the military and the government
dismissed the announcement, saying no such negotiation was underway.
Thailand's three southernmost provinces -- Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani --
have been troubled with insurgency-related violence which has claimed more than
3,500 lives since it resumed in early 2004.
