Judoka athlete to bear Mongolia flag at Beijing Olympics opening ceremony

    ULAN BATOR, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Mahgal Bayarjavhlan, Mongolia's Judo athlete of +100 kg, would be the country's flagman at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, according to the Mongolian National Olympic Committee on Tuesday.

    Bayarjavhlan will attend the Olympic Games for the first time. The judoka, also a national wrestler in Mongolia, placed 7th in the Asian Judo Championship earlier this year.

    Judo and boxing are preponderant items for Mongolia and now 29 Mongolian athletes have qualified for the Beijing Olympics.

    Mongolia has won 15 medals from the previous Olympic Games but hadn't won one gold medal, while the country pins hopes to earn gold medals from the Beijing Games.
