¡¡LAGOS, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Soccer experts in Nigeria have hailed the team's victory over Senegal and also urged the team to maintain their current winning streak in the African Youth Championships (AYC) qualifiers.
The Nigerian Under-20 side recorded a 1-0 away win over their Senegalese counterparts in the AYC qualifiers in Dakar on Saturday.
Former player Segun Odegbami described the Dakar victory as fantastic, adding that it is a good result for Nigeria and that every Nigerian must be happy about the success of the team.
He urged the team's technical crew to maintain the program that earned them victories both at home and away in the qualifiers.
Nigeria's two-time coach Adegboye Onigbinde said it was a heart- warming victory for the country and was happy that the country is moving forward in the competition.
He said the players and coaches should maintain and improve on their current form as the qualifiers would become tougher.
Former Nigeria Football Association technical director Kashimawo Laloko said it was important for the team to sustain the momentum, but warned against complacency and urged them to be focused.
"I am happy after the scrappy victory at home, the team went to Dakar to win the return leg," he said.
Ademola Olajire, NFA spokesman said the victory was an indication that the team had improved technically and tactically, noting that the associations would continue to support the team in others qualifiers.
Nigeria will now meet Sudan, who overcame Kenya 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the two-leg encounter ended in 1-1 aggregate.
