LIMA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The trial of ex-Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori resumed here on Monday after being suspended due to a medical operation.
Fujimori has recovered from the July 10 laser surgery to remove inflamed tissue on his tongue, authorities said.
The inflammation was caused by a June 5 surgery for removing a precancerous lesion, an attending doctor said.
Nicolas Hermosa, the former commander of Peru's combined armed forces was was questioned during Monday's trial proceedings.
Fujimori, who is due to turn 70 on July 28, governed Peru from 1990-2000. He fled to Japan in 2000 after his government collapsed amid corruption scandals. The son of Japanese parents, he claimed Japanese citizenship on reaching the country and its government had ignored repeated extradition requests from Peru.
The former Peruvian leader arrived unexpectedly in Chile in November 2005 on a private flight from Japan. He was extradited to Peru from Chile in September 2007 and has been held ever since in a temporary jail on the outskirts of the Peruvian capital.
He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted on 10 charges of corruption and two of human rights abuses.
