Polish, Ukrainian leaders meet on Ukraine's aspirations to EU, NATO

    WARSAW, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Polish President Lech Kaczynski methere Monday with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to discuss Ukraine's aspirations to EU and NATO, energy policy and political developments in Ukraine.

    "I would like to once again express optimism regarding NATO's December summit and MAP for Ukraine and Georgia. I would like to say that we will fight until the end because our goals are just and good," Kaczynski said after meeting Tymoshenko.

    The president also expressed the hope for full stabilization of the political situation in Ukraine, according to Polish news agency PAP.

    The Ukrainian prime minister, on her one-day visit to Poland, thanked Lech Kaczynski for firm support for Ukrainian aspirations to EU and NATO.

    Tymoshenko said that the talk with the Polish president largely centered on new possibilities of gas deliveries diversification in Ukraine and the EU.

    Earlier in the day, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also met with Yulia Tymoshenko, and according to the prime minister they talked about the situation on border check points, Polish investment plans and local cross-border traffic.

    "Jointly with Ukraine and the EC we have to hold final negotiations so that the agreement on local cross-border traffic comes true," Tusk stressed at a joint news conference.

    Tymoszenko thanked Tusk and the Swedish prime minister for a joint initiative on the Eastern Partnership. She stressed this initiative opens up "new, extraordinary opportunities for Ukraine's integration with the EU."
