YANGON, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar Prime Minister General Thein Sein has stressed the need for national consolidation in the building of the country, saying that with this, as well as peace, stability, law and order, it brings about achievements in carrying out the endeavors.

Thein Sein made the remarks at the opening of a bridge in southern Mon state Saturday, the official newspaper New Light of Myanmar reported Sunday.

He described the approval of a new state constitution at a recent nationwide referendum as being freely shaped by the people out of national consolidation.

"In other words, the entire people unanimously laid down the foundation that can guarantee the future of the state. In the same way, the state, the people and the Tatmadaw (military) will continue to implement the future work programs of the state," he said.

The May constitutional nationwide referendum was the fourth step of the government's seven-step roadmap heading for the emergence of a democratic government from the military.

He went on to accuse some foreign countries of continuing to make instigation, pressure and attempts to jeopardize the process of transition to democracy at this time.

"Whatever it is, the government will strive together with the people for the emergence of a modern and developed discipline-flourishing democratic nation based on nationalistic spirit and union spirit," he added.
