Special report: Palestine-Israel Relations
AMMAN, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's King Abdullah
reiterated the Palestinian issue is the core of the conflict in the Middle East,
underlining the importance of finding a solution to end the Israeli occupation
and achieve the ambition of Palestinians, said a statement released by the royal
court on Saturday.
The king made the remarks on Friday during an
economic conference held in the state of Idaho, the United States, the statement
said.
He underscored the importance of continuing the
international support in helping the Palestinians overcome the economic,
educational and health challenges they are facing, according to the statement.
The king, however, stressed that "the Jordanian
option, which is marketed by some people as a solution for the Palestinian
issue, is totally refused by Jordan and Palestine."
Under the Jordan option, the West Bank and possibly
the Gaza Strip would be united in a political and economic confederation with
Jordan.
In the meanwhile, the king said dialogue is the only
way to solve the increasing tension between Iran and the West, reiterating that
the region can not bear more confrontations.
Jordan's King Abdullah is currently on a visit to the
United States. He is scheduled to attend the annual meeting of Aspen Institute
in Colorado State of the United States following the economic conference in
Idaho.
