BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- State Councilor Liu Yandong on Thursday called for innovation in national development at a forum held by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

    "The promotion of innovation is a strategic decision made by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council. Over the past decade, the CAS innovation efforts have greatly contributed to the country's economic development, social progress and national security," Liu said.

    She said the CAS had closely linked technology with the economy and greatly promoted the industrialization of technological achievements, reformed scientific research institutes and enhanced their coordination.

    Liu said the training of young innovative personnel should be strengthened.
