NEW DELHI, June 27 (Xinhua) -- India's inflation rate surged to a record
11.42 percent for the week ended June 14, up from 11.05 percent recorded in the
previous week, the government released Friday.
The rise has been mainly on account of higher prices of food items like
tea, milk and cereals. The other commodities, whose prices went up during the
week were lubricants and manufactured items, according to the NDTV.
India's inflation touched a 13-year high of 11.05 percent as on June 7.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday said that double-digit inflation
is likely to continue for a few more weeks before government's efforts to ease
the rate of price rise succeed.
