ANKARA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces killed three militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in eastern Turkey on Wednesday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
A clash erupted between the security forces and the PKK on Mount Tendurek in the rural area of Agri province early on Wednesday, Agri governor Mehmet Cetin was quoted as saying.
Cetin said that three PKK militants, including two women, were killed so far in the ongoing operation staged by the PKK.
One Turkish officer was also wounded and taken to a hospital for treatment, added Cetin.
The Turkish military has periodically bombed and shelled suspected PKK positions in Turkish-Iraqi border area during the past few months. In February, it launched an eight-day ground incursion into Iraq.
The PKK, listed by the United States and Turkey as a terrorist group, took up arms in 1984 with the aim of creating an ethnic homeland in the southeast Turkey. More than 30,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
