Earthquake hits easternmost Indonesia

    JAKARTA, June 25 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with magnitude of 5.4 rocked easternmost island of Indonesia on Wednesday morning, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, local Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said here.

    The quake struck at 02:48 Jakarta time (1948 GMT Tuesday) with epicenter at 219 kilometers southwest Jayapura of Papua province and 66 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.

    Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone, so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire", where two continental plates meet that causes frequent volcanic movements.
