JAKARTA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government plans to scrap tax
on overseas travel starting 2009, an official said Tuesday.
The policy will apply selectively at the beginning, with citizens who own
individual tax identification number exempted from the tax when traveling
abroad, taxation director general Darmin Nasution was quoted by the national
Antara news agency as saying.
The government charges 1 million rupiah (108 U.S. dollars) per person for
overseas trip by air and 500,000 rupiah (54 U.S. dollars) for trip by sea.
"We expect to exempt all Indonesian citizens from the (exit tax) on Jan. 1,
2011," Nasution said.
