SEOUL, June 23 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's electronics
company Samsung Electronics out beat its global competitors in terms of
television units sold in Europe, a market research agency DisplaySearch said
Monday.
According to DisplaySearch, Samsung Electronics
accounted for 31 percent of all television units, including liquid-crystal
display (LCD) and cathode-ray tube (CRT) types, sold in the European market in
the first quarter of 2008.
Samsung's domestic rival LG Electronics Inc. ranked
second and Royal Philips Electronics NV of the Netherlands rank third, with 13.4
percent and 12.7 percent, respectively, DisplaySearch said, adding that
Television sales in Europe accounted for 21.5 percent of all television units
sold in the world.
During the same period, Samsung accounted for 30
percent of all LCD television sales, followed by Royal Philips and Sony with
15.7percent and 13.8 percent, respectively, said DisplaySearch.
Meanwhile, Samsung's sales for plasma-display
projection (PDP) ranked second, accounting for 27.5 percent of all PDP units
sold in Europe, following behind Japanese Matsushita Electric Industrial Co.
with a 39.7 percent share in the first quarter, according to
DisplaySearch.
