ANKARA, June 20 (Xinhua) -- One PKK rebel surrendered to Turkish Security Forces in southeastern Turkey, Turkish General Staff said on Friday in a statement posted on its website.
The rebel, who escaped from PKK camp in northern Iraq, surrendered to the security forces in Silopi town of Sirnak, said the report.
Meanwhile, the security forces also arrested two PKK rebels in Akhisar town of western province of Manisa and Cinar town of southeastern province of Diyarbakir on Friday.
The Turkish military has periodically bombed and shelled suspected PKK positions in Turkish-Iraqi border area during the past few months. In February it launched an eight-day ground incursion into Iraq.
The PKK, listed by the United States and Turkey as a terrorist group, took up arms in 1984 with the aim of creating an ethnic homeland in the southeast Turkey. More than 30,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
