MOGADISHU, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The Council of Ministers of the Somali transitional government have unanimously endorsed a peace agreement signed last week in Djibouti with the opposition Alliance for the Reliberation of Somalia (ARS), a Somali government spokesman said Monday.

"None of the ministers opposed the agreement," Abdi Hajji Goobdoon told reporters.

The endorsement of the agreement comes amid speculation that the Somali government will put the agreement to vote at the Somali national parliament where some lawmakers have expressed their opposition to the agreement.

A 15-member joint committee chaired by the UN envoy to Somalia will visit the country and make sure the implementation of the Djibouti agreement.

However, the Asmara-based splinter faction of the ARS, along with other armed groups, has rejected the peace deal.

Somalia has been without a central authority since the ouster of former ruler Mohamed Siyad Barre in 1991.
