China honors helicopter regiment for
quake relief
CHENGDU, June 15 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao on
Saturday ordered that the title of "heroic quake-relief force" be given to a
helicopter regiment that showed loyalty and courage in rescue work following
last month's major quake in southwest China.
The command by Hu, also Chairman of the Central Military
Commission of the People's Republic of China, was announced at an award meeting
here on Sunday.
The regiment of army aviation under the Chengdu
Military Command did an excellent job in quake-relief missions and showed great
loyalty, courage and dedication, the command said.
All Chinese military members should learn from the
regiment, which put people's lives first, it said. Full story
Bodies of five helicopter crew
cremated in Sichuan capital
CHENGDU, Sichuan, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The bodies of the five crew from the
crashed military helicopter found in southwest China's earthquake zone were
cremated in the Sichuan Provincial capital Chengdu on Friday, a military source
said.
The bodies were driven in hearses to Chengdu from the
epicenter town Yingxiu around 10:30 a.m. Friday. Full story
China sends 101 more helicopters to
quake-hit area for relief work
BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- China's Defense Ministry said early Thursday that it
has ordered the deployment of 101 more helicopters to the quake-hit Sichuan
province.
The General Staff of the People's Liberation Army has
ordered the airborne troops of the army and air force to send 71 more transport
helicopters to help the quake relief work, a spokesman of the Ministry told

Copters take off in bad weather to
large Sichuan "quake lake"
MIANYANG, Sichuan, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Two Mi-17 helicopters carrying armed
police and heavy-duty machinery left here on Saturday despite bad weather and
headed for a flood-prone quake lake at Tangjiashan Mountain.
Low visibility in the quake-stricken city in Sichuan
Province has hindered airlifts to the lake, which is in danger of
