Special report:   2008 Olympic Games

MADRID, June 12 (Xinhua) -- President of the Radio Television Espanola (RTVE) Luis Fernandez announced Thursday the launching of a high definition channel for the broadcasting of the Olympic Games of Beijing.

After a meeting with the Directors Broad of the Association of Olympic Sports (ADO), Fernandez said that they are about to close the details for the launching of a TVE channel of High Definition directed to all the citizens that have the support to receive the signal.

The high definition of the Olympic Games of Beijing will be added to other event that could be seen in Spain by that system, like the Austria and Switzerland matches of Euro 2008, broadcasted by Canal +HD.

Fernandez added that they expect good levels of audience during the three week's Olympic broadcasting, although it is a complicated time due to the vacations season and the time difference between Spain and China.

"We would die doing the best. We have the higher-profile representative in the history of the Olympic Games. We will do a broadcast unprecedented in all the TV channels," Fernandez said.
