BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China's official Xinhua News Agency on Thursday urged a German-language news website to stop infringement of its rights.

The agency recently found a website called "Xinhua China Nachrichten"  (www.xinhua.de/index.php), which illegally exploited the "Xinhua" name, an official with the foreign affairs department of the news agency said.

China's official Xinhua News Agency on Thursday urged the German-language news website to stop infringement of its rights.

The website has damaged Xinhua's reputation at home and abroad, he said.

Xinhua News Agency's official website is www.xinhuanet.com (or www.xinhua.org, or www.news.cn), he stressed, noting that the agency had never authorized any organization or individual to set up any website within or outside of China.

The official demanded that the website immediately stop its infringement activity.

Xinhua News Agency reserves the right to prosecute the website under law, he said.
