81% of Vietnamese STD patients are women

    HANOI, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Some 130,000 Vietnamese people have been annually infected with sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs) in recent years, of whom 81 percent are women, local newspaper Transport quoted Vietnam's National Dermatology and Venerology Institute as reporting.

    By the end of 2007, the country had 211,476 cases of STD infections last year, 93.9 percent suffered from Chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts and yeast infections, roughly 2.6 percent from gonorrhea, over 2.3 percent from AIDS, and nearly 1.2percent from syphilis. Most of the patients are in the age bracket of 15-49.

    Vietnam has a population of some 87 million.
