TOKYO, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Kosuke Kitajima, Athens Olympic double gold medallist, broke a world record Sunday in the men's 200-meter breaststroke at the Japan Open.
At the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center, Kitajima, wearing the Speedo's high-tech LZR Racer, clocked 2 minutes, 7.51 seconds, shattering the record of 2:08.50 set by American Brendan's Hansen two years ago.
Earlier, Kitajima established new national records in the 100 and 50 breaststroke at the three-day Japan Open.
