BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Classic rockers Van
Halen reunion tour with singer David Lee Roth grossed more than 93 million U.S.
dollars, making it the most successful tour in the band's 30 years, according to
media reports Friday.
The shows marked the first time Roth performed
with the band in more than 23 years. Van Halen's handlers say it was the
top-grossing tour in the band's history.
It also marked the first Van Halen tour with 15
year-old bassist Wolfgang Van Halen on board joining father guitarist
extraordinaire Eddie Van Halen and uncle drummer Alex Van Halen.
A total of nearly one million fans attended the tour
during 74 arena shows throughout the United States and Canada, beginning Sept.
27 in Charlotte, N.C. and wrapping Tuesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
"We send our thanks to the countless new and longtime
fans that helped make this tour our most successful," the members of Van Halen
said in a joint statement.
"We also send special gratitude to the tireless
efforts of the Van Halen touring crew, Live Nation and the media, as well as
opening acts Ky Mani Marley and Ryan Shaw."
Van Halen was formed in 1974 and quickly won a loyal
hometown fan base with their electrifying live shows; from sun-soaked backyard
parties to the glammy clubs along the fabled Sunset Strip.
Van Halen released its self-titled 1978 debut album
which became one of the biggest selling rock debuts of all time, including
celebrated tracks like "Eruption," "Running with the Devil," "Jamie's Cryin'," "
You Really Got Me" and "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" leading the show.
