ALGIERS, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Two bombs exploded in the east of the Algerian
capital Algiers on Wednesday, killing at least two people and injuring many
others, the Algerian News Agency reported on Wednesday.
The first blast occurred at a barracks of the Republican Guard in the
eastern Algiers suburb of Bordj El Kiffan in the afternoon, and five minutes
later a home-made device exploded outside a shop in the same area.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blasts, while the scenes of the
attacks have been cordoned off.
The bombings occurred one day before a meeting of Mediterranean countries'
foreign ministers in this North African country.
The meeting, scheduled for June 5-6, will discuss a proposed Union for the
Mediterranean (UPM) and the situation in the Middle East.
