BUDAPEST, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's Parliament on Monday approved a bill on establishing NATO's strategic logistics airbase in Papa (W Hungary) and stationing related NATO forces on Hungarian soil.
According to the report of Hungarian News Agency, the bill was approved by 363 votes and a single abstention.
The law allows the organization managing NATO's strategic airlifts to operate in Hungary. The organization is scheduled to start operations at Papa in July with tasks ranging from airlifting military hardware to dispatching humanitarian aid to natural or industrial disaster hit areas with its three C-17 airplanes.
The aircraft, to be operated by multinational crews, will be at the disposal of NATO, the UN, EU, and other international missions, such as delivering humanitarian aid or providing disaster relief.
